Job Description

Renewable Northwest, the Northwest’s preeminent renewable energy advocacy organization, seeks a Markets and Transmission Policy Manager to support legislative, regulatory, and policy activities aimed at advancing the adoption of clean energy and energy storage. Renewable Northwest’s work is focused in the Pacific Northwest, specifically the states of Oregon, Washington, Montana and Idaho. The Markets and Transmission Policy Manager position will be filled within the western U.S., with a strong preference for the Pacific Northwest. The position will require travel throughout the western United States. The Markets and Transmission Policy Manager will report to the Markets and Transmission Director and collaborate with other policy and administrative staff at the organization to achieve successful outcomes.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the organization’s engagement on issues related to energy markets and transmission.
  • Coordinate with other Renewable Northwest staff to ensure consistency in messaging and efforts across all platforms within which the organization engages.
  • Represent the organization in CAISO stakeholder meetings, SPP Markets+ and SPP RTO West stakeholder meetings, and the Western Power Pool stakeholder meetings.
  • Prepare high-impact technical reports and white papers as well as presentations to critical stakeholders and external audiences and will assist in the planning and delivery of outreach and engagement opportunities including workshops and conferences.
  • Coordinate the work of technical and legal consultants.
  • Participate in regional forums (WECC, NWPCC, CREPC/WIRAB, etc..) related to markets and transmission issues.
  • Hold regularly scheduled member meetings to discuss issues relevant to markets and transmission.
  • Support engagement on issues related to BPA.
  • Analyze governance and tariff documents and evaluate regional market and transmission proposals.
  • Support policy and regulatory matters related to western RTO development.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Passion for a clean energy future.
  • Commitment to clean energy advocacy.
  • Degree in a relevant field with 2+ years of relevant work experience. Relevant work experience includes (but is not limited to) work in utility, policy, economics, electrical engineering, or government settings.
  • General knowledge of clean energy policy and regulation.
  • General knowledge of western energy markets and the current dynamics of market expansion efforts.
  • Significant technical interest in the areas of electricity infrastructure analysis, valuation, and regulatory approaches.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply energy & environmental principles, theories, and concepts in the fields of electricity infrastructure technology and policy.
  • Stellar writing, editing and public speaking skills.
  • Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to manage multiple tactical projects while advancing cohesive overarching strategy.
  • Ability to work efficiently, yet strategically, within tight deadlines.
  • Passionate and productive work ethic.
  • Experience with MacOS, Excel, PowerPoint and Google Apps (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Gmail) a plus.

 

 

COMPENSATION AND AMENITIES

  • Starting Salary Range: $75,000-$90,000
