Job Description

For five decades, the Environmental Law Institute (ELI) has played a pivotal role in shaping the fields of environmental law, policy, and management, both domestically and internationally. 

The Communications Associate will report to the Director of Communications. This position’s primary responsibility will be working with colleagues across departments to execute the Environmental Law Institute’s strategic communications plan. 

About the Position

  • Assist the Director of Communications in organization-wide marketing and communications efforts. 
  • Manage social media accounts, including drafting and scheduling posts, graphics, videos, and other media.
  • Create social media and information graphics as needed in Canva. 
  • Support outreach to targeted groups to drive engagement with ELI, e.g., increasing event participation, increasing donations, etc. 
  • Coordinate with ELI research project leads to promote their outputs via social media, sponsored ads, or other media strategies.
  • Aid the Podcast Manager in drafting social media for upcoming podcast episodes. 
  • Partner with the Director of Communications to strengthen the organization's ability to connect past research and work to current events (connecting the dots).
  • Assist with the development and production of drop materials, such as annual reports, brochures, and similar.
  • Other duties as assigned within the scope of responsibility and requirements of the job.

QUALIFICATIONS

The Communications department is collaborative, and the Communications Associate must interact professionally with people from diverse racial, ethnic, political, and socioeconomic backgrounds.   • Excellent skills in: Written and verbal interpersonal communications, organization, attention to detail, time management, web research, and problem solving.
  • Demonstrated ability to: Manage multiple tasks at once, work in a fast-paced event environment, collaborate, and respond to problems quickly and efficiently.
  • Proficiency with standard office software, including Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • General knowledge of: email marketing, marketing strategies, social media best practices, communications, and public relations.
  • Willingness and ability to learn new skills.
  • Superb attention to detail and ability to consistently adhere to deadlines.
  • Accurate and reliable data entry skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to:
    1. represent ELI publicly in a manner consistent with our mission and values;
    2. collaborate effectively with others;
    3. confidentially and professionally communicate and interact with donors and board members.

COMPENSATION

The annual salary for this position starts at $55,000 and is commensurate with experience. ELI’s total compensation includes excellent benefits including:
