SUEZ Energy North America Announces Executive Appointments in New Renewable Energy Business Division

Paul J. Cavicchi has been appointed president and chief executive officer of SUEZ Energy North America's (SENA's) new renewable energy business division. The SUEZ Renewable Energy North America (SRENA) division is responsible for all renewable energy initiatives in North America, including wind, hydro, biomass, and solar energy projects. Among its activities, the division now manages the third largest biomass portfolio in the United States and the Canadian wind power operator and developer Ventus Energy Inc., acquired by a SENA affiliate last month.

Cavicchi has been with SENA and its predecessor company since 1991. He most recently served as executive vice president of Business Development for SENA, and prior to that as president and chief executive officer for SUEZ Energy Generation NA, Inc.

Cavicchi's Business Development experience includes project acquisition and the greenfield development of more than $3 billion in power and LNG assets. While at SUEZ Energy Generation NA, Cavicchi was responsible for operations and asset management of a 51-project portfolio exceeding 5,500 MW.

John Douglas, the co-founder, president and chief executive officer of Ventus Energy Inc. and newly appointed chief operating officer of wind development for SRENA, will report to Cavicchi and be responsible for optimizing and expanding SRENA's Canadian portfolio of 25 wind energy development projects in six provinces in eastern Canada and for SRENA's U.S. wind development.

Based in Houston, SUEZ Energy North America, Inc. is the business unit of SUEZ Energy International responsible for managing SUEZ's positions within the energy value chain in the United States, Mexico, and Canada, including electricity generation and cogeneration, natural gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG), asset-based trading and origination, and retail energy sales and related services to commercial and industrial customers.

SUEZ Energy North America owns and/or operates a total of 47 power, cogeneration, steam, and chilled-water facilities, including those in construction, representing a capacity of more than 5,713 MW of electricity generation, 6.1 million pounds per hour of steam, and 42,649 tons per hour of chilled water. SUEZ Energy North America's wholly owned subsidiary, Distrigas of Massachusetts, owns and operates a liquefied natural gas receiving terminal in Everett, Mass., which began operations in 1971 and currently serves most of the gas utilities in New England and key power producers, meeting approximately 20 percent of New England's annual gas demand. In addition, SUEZ Energy North America has two LNG deepwater port projects under development off the coasts of Massachusetts and Florida.
