Spire CEO, Roger Little, Completes his 10th Ironman World Triathlon Championship
Bedford, Massachusetts, United States October 19, 2007

Spire Corporation (Nasdaq: SPIR) announced today that its CEO, Roger G. Little, finished his 10th Ironman Triathlon World Championship in Kailua Kona, Hawaii on October 13, 2007 in 15 hours and 17 minutes, placing 14th in a field of 24 in his age group.

The Ironman Triathlon World Championships is considered one of the world's most grueling events. It consists of a 2.4 mile open ocean swim followed by a 112 mile bike race and finishing with a 26.2 mile marathon. The event is on the big island of Hawaii. It is known for its heat, humidity and strong trade winds that blow constantly when biking through the lava fields. This year more than 100,000 triathletes competed to qualify for one of the 1,800 entry slots of the race.

Mr. Roger G. Little, said, "This race was tougher than usual. The sun rose in a sky that stayed cloudless throughout the day. The intense sun heated the ground so much that athletes who ran barefoot in the transition area actually experienced second-degree burns on their feet."

"The 2.4 mile swim in Kailua Bay was fine, but the 112 mile bike race was never ending. Not only was it exceptionally hot, but also the wind switched during the day. There were head winds going out to Hawi as expected but head winds also had to be fought coming back to Kona. I spent more than seven hours on the bike ride alone, squirting myself with water from aid stations whenever I could. At the end of the bike leg, the balls of my feet hurt so much I actually peddled on top of my shoes."

"By the time I started the marathon, I was already smoked. I ran and walked to get started then ran about 15 miles. After running up the hill from the energy lab, I walked through an aid station drinking Gatorade but then couldn't get my legs going again. I walked the next four miles and then ran the last mile into town to the finish line. I finally finished the race in just over 15 hours, my slowest time in all of my ten races."

Roger has been competing in triathlons for more than 25 years. He has been an all American many times. Most recently he competed in the Olympic distance world championships in Hamburg, Germany as a member of Team USA.
