Description:
A junior Mechanical Engineer in the Power Technology Group. This position requires a well-rounded, disciplined structural/mechanical engineer who works well in a team environment. This position will provide design input and sizing information to help develop mechanical systems. This may entail specification and design concept development, solid modeling, load and stress analysis, and mechanical detailing.
1. Design and analysis of load bearing elements of a wind turbine, including drivetrain, tower, and mechanical components.
2. Dynamic simulation of wind turbines.
3. Data analysis such as finite element analysis of structural steel components.
4. Solid modeling.
5. Generate manufacturing drawings.
Occasional travel may be required to visit vendors or customers, as well as to Northern's manufacturing facilities.
Requirements
Required Qualifications:
1. BSME degree.
2. At least 1 year of experience in dynamic simulation, structural and machine design.
3. At least 1 year of experience with a solid modeling package, and minimum 1 year experience with FEA are required.
4. Prospective candidates must have experience with complicated, load bearing mechanical assemblies with rotating parts.
5. Discipline to work within a quality system, and the ability to work well within a team environment.
6. Experience in planning and executing technical design projects.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. MSME degree.
2. Previous experience in wind turbine design; structural design and fatigue analysis.
3. Completion of a capstone engineering project on some mechanical system that is relevant to wind turbine design.
4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
5. Demonstrated history for achieving excellence in mechanical design, and willingness to put in analytical effort in order to achieve excellence.
