Tokyo, Japan March 3, 2010

SANYO Electric Co., Ltd. (SANYO) is pleased to announce that its 'eneloop portable solar' (SSL-SBSL3AS and SSL-SBWL3AS) has won the “Gold Award,” at the iF Design Awards in Germany. The iF Design Awards are internationally recognized, and are awarded not only based on outward design, but also on functionality, environmental consciousness, ease of use, and innovation among other comprehensive judging criterion. An awards ceremony was held during the CeBIT Show in Hannover, Germany, on March 2, 2010 to announce the winners and present the awards.

This marks the second consecutive year that SANYO has won a “Gold Award” at the iF Product Design Awards, following a win for the ‘eneloop solar light’ last year. In addition to ‘the eneloop portable solar’ winning the Gold Award, 7 other SANYO products have also received iF Design Awards this year.

SANYO is continuing to receive a high level of international recognition for its environmental concepts and design. For the future, SANYO intends to keep providing “Solutions Pleasing to the Earth and Life,” as it aims to become a leading company for energy and environment.

Award-winning Product

-iF Product Design Award, Gold Award:
‘eneloop portable solar’ (SSL-SBSL3AS and SSL-SBWL3AS)

The ‘eneloop portable solar’ was launched in Japan in August 2009, as part of the ‘eneloop universe products,’ a series to expand the ‘eneloop’ rechargeable battery concept of a “lifestyle that values reusing and recycling.” Equipped with SANYO’s proprietary and high-efficiency HIT solar cell technology, the ‘eneloop portable solar’ utilizes energy from the sun to charge the included ‘eneloop mobile booster,’ which is then used to charge personal devices such as mobile phones. Since phones and other devices can be charged using 100% solar energy, ‘eneloop portable solar’ is the ideal clean energy product.

-Other iF Product Design Award winners:

eneloop lantern (ENL-L1EX)
eneloop lamp (ENL-Y1S)
eneloop bike (CY-SPJ220 and CY-SPK227)
